8 Steps to Ordering a Black and White Digital Portrait

1- Find an artist whose work you admire.

2- Tell the artist what size you will need the illustration width x heightWidth is always first.

3- Tell the artist how many illustrations you require and how many subjects will be in each piece.  For instance: 1 subject, or 2 subjects in one piece or 6 pieces each with one subject.  Make your needs clear.  Next ask the artist's turn around time for the type of art you have described. Many times customers will ask a turn around time without stating exactly what and how many illustions are needed.

4- Know the deadline date you will need the finished art. Next count back a few days to have some breathing space.  For instance, if it is for an article do not tell the artist the publication date.  Instead they will need to know the date you must have it.     Example:  if today is the first of the month and you need to forward it to the publication on the 23rd tell the artist you need it by the 20th. Make sure the date you must have it is on the contract the artist will create for your order.

5- Depending on the artist's schedule there can be rush fees.   If it means the artist must fit it in to their already busy schedule which is why you should first describe your needs in as outlined in paragraph 3.  This way you know they are not charging extra for a rush fee if your order fits in their normal schedule.

6- The artist will need a clear, large, close-up photo of the subject.  In the sample below the photo has been reduced for the purpose of example.  The photo was much bigger than shown.
